After several months of meetings and discussions, the Aquatic Center project is moving forward. For those who have followed the Board of Commissioner’s meetings over the past year, you know that this project has been on and off, with multiple options and locations considered. Thanks to a generous local donor, we are excited to announce that the Aquatic Center is moving forward on property located off Pinetree Way. The property will also be the home of a new elementary school and, in conjunction with Lumpkin County Schools and the University of North Georgia, we are looking forward to all the possibilities for future uses of this facility. Now that the property has been secured, we can enter the design phase with hopes of beginning construction early next spring. This state-of-the art facility will not only have indoor and outdoor swimming, but will also have a lazy river and splash activities for children, outdoor rental spaces, and a therapy pool for those who desire low impact exercise or need rehabilitation after illness or surgery. The concept drawings below will give you an idea of what the facility may look like. Regardless of the looks of the finished product, the facility is expected to offer increased quality of life and be an amazing addition to our area!
