  4. War of 1812 Veterans Dedication Ceremony

    November 24, 2019, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

On Sunday, November 24th at 2 pm in Mt. Hope Cemetery, we will be honoring two War of 1812 veterans who were never previously recognized for their service. Over the past summer, Chris Worick began looking into online military records for names of those who are buried in Mt. Hope cemetery. His thought was to identify if any of these men may have served in our earlier wars of the 19th century but had not been acknowledged. Two men who came up during research are William Woodward and Benjamin Davis. Both men resided in Dahlonega for many years before passing away in the 1860s and are interred in Mt. Hope. Without giving away the rest of the story, we will have the ladies of the General John Bayliss Scott Chapter of the US Daughters of 1812 in Athens, conduct a dedication ceremony for these two veterans. The public is invited to attend. For updates, please see the Dahlonega Cemetery Committee facebook page.
